steel vs. wood

ok...the title is a lie. were you really under the impression that i was going to begin that argument this early in the blog? that wouldn't really be fair to you and i think that i would discover it may be on the higher end of Mohs scale.

and really not only do i apologize to you for getting your hopes up, but this comes as a belated apology to Diana, the recipient of this piece. originally she asked for a what would seem simple drift wood lamp.  well i know that you are capable of making a driftwood lamp, and i've seem them before, which normally dictates that i can create something that would allow the same impression.

however, the idea of creating light and possibly introducing steel into an element that has traveled the ocean on its own bids for a deeper understanding that sometimes time simply won't permit. it's my understanding that you can't simply shove a electical rod up something and have your mind altered to view my own impressions, which is what i require in art. at least thats what i require in my art.

and still i've not giving you a full affect of why i wouldn't pursue a path that could help better define the depth of a part of a tree that has traveled the world via our major highway of the ocean. and for you i won't, not today, give you the answer, because its sitting on my front porch, drying out, and dropping bits of sand that i constantly bring into the house via my muddy shoes.

here is what i did present to diana. i'm sure not what she was looking for, but as is diana's nature to ask me questions before i'm ready to answer, this was an appropriate place holder.

and, as the frame sample the theory simply wouldn't support. i found that this votive creation was only a place holder and unfortunately opened up a much larger lesion about steel compression that honestly i haven't even begin to think about. my suggestion, let part of your senses work and allow your brain to rest. but check out the texture on the inside of the medallion mold.
